Services
Head Start emphasizes
the importance of early identification of health problems. The program arranges
for every child to receive comprehensive health care including
medical, dental, mental health and nutrition services. Follow-up is provided for
identified problem.

HEALTH
SCREENINGS
Upon entrance into the Head Start program your child will receive
several screenings that are vital to his/her health. The screenings are:

Height and
weight to monitor physical growth |
 |
Hearing and vision to detect hearing or vision
loss |
 |
Speech and language to detect early speech and
language deficits. |

Parents are invited to attend the screenings and will
receive a comprehensive report of the results.

Nutrition
Services
In the program the
children are served a full course meal and snack each day in order to meet at
least 2/3 of their daily nutritional needs.
The
Head Start meal consists of:

A vitamin C food
every day |
 |
A vitamin A food every other day |
 |
Foods high in fiber |
 |
Foods high in iron |
 |
Full strength (100%) fruit juice |
 |
2% Milk |
 |
Foods with a variety of textures and colors |
Ethnic/Holiday meals to broaden knowledge of different types
of food are prepared. Meal modifications are done to assist with food allergies.
Mental
Health Services
Head Start recognizes the importance of providing mental health and psychological services to
children to encourage their emotional and social development A mental health
professional is available as a resource to staff and parents to make them
aware of the need for early attention to any special problems of the child.
