Family & Community Involvement

Family Involvement
Parents are the most important influence on a child's development. An essential part of the Head Start Program is the involvement of parents in parent education, program planning and operating activities. Many serve as members of the Policy Council and Parent Committees which have a voice in administrative and managerial decisions, while others serve as volunteers in the classroom.

FAMILY PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENTS
Partnerships are the hallmark of Head Start's success; they represent strong and caring relationships between Head Start staff and families. The family partnership agreement is an individualized, strengths-based, family-driven process-one in which staff provide support to families in response to their interest, goals, strengths, and needs.

Community Partnerships
Head Start serves families within the context of the community, and recognizes that many agencies and groups work with the same families. The objectives of the Community Partnership component ensure that Head Start programs collaborate with partners in their communities, in order to provide the highest level of services to children and families; while fostering the development of a continuum of family centered services.
