  • Do I need to be an American citizen to apply for Early Head Start?
    No.  Early Head Start does not require proof of citizenship or proof of immigration.

  • I am caring for a child, but I do not have custody of her.  Can I enroll her in Early Head Start?
    With the permission of the person who has custody, you can enroll her in Early Head Start.

  • I have a child who is over 3 years old.  Where can he go to school?
    If your child turned 3 by September 1 of the current school year, he is eligible to apply for the Agency's core  Head Start program.

  • What is proof of income?
    Income means gross (before taxes) cash income and includes earned income, military income, veterans benefits, social security benefits, unemployment compensation, and public assistance benefits. Income must be verified either for the previous 12 months or the last calendar year.

    One or more of the following sources may be used to prove income:

    • 1040 Tax Statement

    • W2 Statement

    • Pay stubs or pay envelopes

    • Income declaration, such as a letter from an employer.

    Note: Food stamps are not included as part of your income.
