Children's Services

Offers comprehensive, family-centered services that foster individual and family growth and development as well as prepare children for school.

HEAD START

Children need an environment that encourages healthy mental, social, emotional and physical development. The Head Start Program, a center-based preschool program offered in six centers across the county, provides activities to do just that.

These centers offer family development services and strive to create a sense of
belonging by encouraging parents to get involved by serving on center committees or on the Head Start Policy Council.

EXTENDED CARE

Parents need childcare after the regular Head Start hours. Extended Care meets this need by providing a safe, fun and enriching environment in which children can flourish.

EARLY HEAD START

Low-income families with children from birth to three years and expectant mothers depend on Early Head Start (EHS) for child care. Both EHS, and its grantee, Maryland Family Network, Inc. (formerly Friends of the Family), are committed to promoting the importance of early intervention. The curriculum is designed to fully support infants’ and toddlers’ natural instincts of learning through their environment and relationships with others. Center services support parental roles and promote self-sufficiency.

O’Bery Court Summer Program

Thanks to St. Anne’s Parish, the children enjoyed the O’Bery Court Summer Program at Annapolis Gardens Head Start. Bob Wickizer, Acting Rector for St. Anne’s, applauded Louisa Matthews, Chair of the Spring Festival which raises the $8,000 to run the Summer Program. Wickizer says, “Louisa’s role, not only in raising funds for a much needed enrichment program but in raising community awareness, is exemplary.

St. Anne’s now sends more volunteers into our neighboring Clay Street community where O’Bery Court is located. Even people who never attend church are now either donating funds or volunteering their time to work in the Clay Street Community. This is an example of local outreach at its best.”
